Sunday, May 3, 2020 – First Ride at Chickasaw

Hello Darlin'!
Lola was quiet and slept through the night, but it took a long time for me to fall asleep, don't know why. Woke up to a beautiful morning, nice and warm, hardly a cloud in the sky. Took care of the chores, had breakfast and had Flash saddled up and ready to go just after 10:00. Lola had already wandered over to the other campers, the ones that I'm riding with this morning, and apparently one of the horses got spooked by her while they were playing with her, so it was decided to leave her behind today, darn it! Oh, well, she'll be coming with me on the rest of my rides, so not really a problem. The four of us (with Annie, Kathy and Billy) headed out of camp on a decent dirt trail, and then they suddenly turned and went cross-country, not really sure why, so we ended up having to maneuver around some downed trees and holes and a bunch of other stuff. Certainly not a path I'll be taking on my own! Eventually we came out onto a gravel/dirt road and followed some of those for a long way, also not exactly my cup of tea, but I didn't have much say in the matter. During the last mile we ended up on the resident rental stable's riding trail, which was more like what I was used to, but of course, there was a lot more wear on that, yet still in pretty good shape. Flash behaved brilliantly, despite the fact we have been out for a month, and he got along fine with the other horses. They were all gaited, too, but Flash still tried to jump out front every chance he had! Got back to camp a little after 1:00, washed him down as he had worked up quite a sweat (pretty warm this morning!), before putting him back inside the fence. During a lot of the ride, I was also communicating with someone who drove from Nashville down to the house to buy the two burgundy Lazyboys I had for sale, as well as the new house owner to coordinate a pickup, so that kept me kind of distracted. I had to finish off that transaction as soon as I got back to camp, which took longer than I hoped. Eventually, though, I checked the radar and saw that a heavy band of rain was coming in, so I put everything away and battened everything down before it arrived. It was a lovely rainstorm, cooling the temperatures down nicely, so hoping for a good night sleep between the sleeping temps and the exercise. By 5:00, the rain had passed and the campground was completely empty. This used to be our favorite time, wasn't it, babe? When everything quieted down and we had the place to ourselves. I put the chair back outside the screen room and threw the ball for Lola for a while again, and then a strange thing happened. Inexplicably, I got all verklempt. I have no idea why. I don't know if it was out of the joy of being back on the road, the tail end of exhaustion, the realization of just how life was going to be from now on without you, I don't know. Not being one who wallows, I decided to take a walk up over the levee and see what the lake looked like, and found a glider swing by the lake where I sat for a few minutes and threw the frisbee into the lake for Lola before walking back to camp fully recovered. There's more rain in the forecast overnight and intermittently over the next few days, so we'll have to wait and see if I can get another ride in soon. I'm looking forward to exploring on my own. The rest is a typical evening of chores, dinner, some laundry and a few more DS9's before hitting the shower and soon to be heading to bed. Hope Lola isn't restless tonight, though if more storms come in, that's a pipe dream! Meanwhile, good night, my soulmate. Love you!
