Monday, Sept. 14, 2015 – Travel Day to Harrison State Forest in Cadiz, OH

Woke up early with the alarm, and since we didn't have a satellite dish to break down, final prep was quick and easy, and we were out by 8:30. On the way out, we saw a spectacular elk buck in the yard of an unoccupied house. We stopped and admired him for a bit, and I got a few photos as well. Gorgeous! I was so glad Hubby finally got to see a buck, and this one was particularly beautiful! The rest of the trip was fairly uneventful, with gas and shopping stops, until we finally reached the campground. I had specifically called and asked about water, because there was conflicting information between the website and the map, which indicated water. The regional manager told me there was a hydrant with non-potable water at each of the two camps, so I anticipated being able to fill up quickly and easily, and have access to water for the horses. Of course, that turned out NOT to be true, there is only a hand pump! Crap! We had to turn around and go back to a gas station in town to fill up the RV. We also discovered there was a group event scheduled, and they had put signs up reserving a number of the spots in the horse camp, so our choices were a bit more limited than normal. Fortunately, group organizer Kathy was very nice about it, and we ended up finding a spot where Hubby thought he could get a satellite dish, though it wasn't long or wide enough for both vehicles, so we had to take up another site across from us for that. I put up a highline behind us for the horses, but the grass is pretty wet and I'm concerned about it making a mess, so I may move them tomorrow. We got enough water out of the horse trailer for the horses (though we were dismayed to discover half the tank had leaked out because a variety of human errors), so that's another problem we need to solve tomorrow. Grrr! Finally settled down to an evening of new TV, with plans to go to bed early!
