Friday, February 21, 2025 – Final Safety Sign In, Ride on Tidewater/Apex Connector

Hiya Sweetie,
Woke up to very cold temps, and almost considered not doing much outside today, but with so much piling up I figured I would get moving once it got over 505, which I did. After my usual morning routine, and about the time it was barely warming up, I loaded up Flash in the small trailer and headed down to Tidewater. We took along the last safety sign and the post hole digger, and made that installation on Saddle Pen Rd. my first chore, and finishing off with the little dog tag sign on the other trailhead sign, then saddled up Flash and started to investigate a trail that looks to be the most likely to become a connector trail between Tidewater and Black Prong, something that is on the forest's ten-year plan. I had always been told that trail is really bad, but I didn't find it to be quite so. Perhaps because it has been so dry, because it did look like it was typically a bit muddier, but not so bad it can't be fixed. We only went about eight miles, so we were back pretty quick. As I was unsaddling Flash, I noticed that one of the tires on my little trailer had a strip of tread missing and the wires were starting to poke out, so, after making sure I had enough air in my spare, I quickly changed the tire. Very glad I kept my impact wrench in the truck! It only took about ten minutes to do, since I also had both my Jiffy Jacks with me. My mechanic yesterday pointed out that the wear bars on the rear wheels on my truck are just starting to show, and the tires are going on seven years old, so now it seems like I need to buy FIVE new tires! I just can't seem to get a break from all these repairs! Well, the good news is, I won't have much big item maintenance again for another five years or more! I mean, new tires, new batteries, new axles, new brakes, new floor in my slideout... And I also need to replace both roof vent fans as well! Well, I guess it's good to get it all done at once, maybe that will be the end of it for awhile, we hope! Got back to camp and put Flash away, then settled down for the evening, per usual! Good night, my darlin'! Love you!
