Hey Babe,
Another long, busy, tiring day, didn't even get back to the trailer until 9:30 pm. Worked in the kitchen most of the day, helping plan and prepare the evening meal, helping a bit with breakfast as well. We ran out of too much food too early last night, and Carol was determined not to let that happen again, so today we overplanned, and cooked way too much, but at least we didn't run out! I helped slice up squash with my kitchen machine, which was a lot easier, but we made way too much. Whatever, we've got leftovers! I had to make a quick run into town for a couple of things Carol forgot on her shopping trip this morning, but then went nonstop all day in preparation, though it was a lot more measured, planned and calm than yesterday. Jo finished her 50 mile ride in 14th place, which she was very happy about, and I picked up her prize for her since she wanted to go to bed early. I fed my hungry horses and was ready for bed almost as soon as I got back, but, of course, horses came first. Definitely ready for shower and bed forthwith! Good night, my darlin'! Love you!
Friday, November 8, 2024 – Ride Day One
Hiya Darlin’!
Today I was a Jill of all trades, evidently. Got up at 7:00, was over to the Snack Shack by 8:00, a little later than I had planned, had my breakfast over there, and was looking for something to do when the company cook, Carol, began looking for someone to man the kitchen while she went shopping. I volunteered, and she went off. I fixed breakfast for a few stragglers, then, with nothing else to do, began washing dishes. Yeah, I was that determined to do something helpful. After that, I sat down for two minutes, but couldn’t stand all the mud that had been dragged in after the rain, so I found a vacuum cleaner and hoovered the carpet. Just as I finished that, Carol returned with groceries, so I helped her carry those in. Then Shawn came in looking for me to do some spotting at the road crossing at the main entrance, so after stopping at the trailer to brush my teeth and pick up my folding chair, I headed over there, relieving Art the Canadian vet from the job. I was supposed to be there from about 11:00 to between 2:00 and 2:30, but later I was asked to stay longer. I was finally relieved about 3:30, went back to the Snack Shack to have a few nibbles, then met up with Jo, who had passed me shortly before on her way in. We chatted for a bit, then she went off to get settled in and I went back to the Snack Shack, where I quickly got roped in to help grill up pork chops for dinner with Michael, an FEI official cum cook. That turned out to be a lot of fun. I ended up on the serving line, where we quickly ran out of food! Everyone wanted everything, and by the end of the night, we systematically ran out of everything except banana pudding, of which she had made three huges trays! We cooks got a few scraps in the end, but what we had was delicious, if I may say so myself. Jo came by after dinner and we had a great chat, so much to get caught up on! She’s looking at a new horse and wants me to come with her next Wednesday to check it out. Finally left a little after 8:00, apologizing for not staying to do dishes, since I still had horses to feed. Just coming up to 9:00 and I’m quite ready for shower and bed! And tomorrow, we get to do it all over again! Good night, sweetie! Love you!
